This is a strange one, as for a band that is called Bad Blow Job, I am expecting either a Hollywood band dripping with Sleaze, a brattish Hip-Hop crossover band, or an angst-ridden Punk band, however what I actually get is an Italian Alt-Rock band. Aside from pre-conceived misinterpretation of the band’s name, we get a pretty middle of the road sound.

Opening track, ‘Always The Same’ is an unfortunate title as this is what I’m thinking. It’s middle-of-the-road rock. The song brings us nothing new from what we get from bands like Staind and Nickleback, but dare I say not even as catchy. ‘Deep Glance’ is a chilled and laid back slice of melodic Rock but lacks any real ‘oomph’, plodding along in a rock-by-numbers fashion.

Splitting a song in two by having one as the intro, and the other as the song is a strange idea, especially as there are only three other tracks here. The intro, therefore seems slightly over indulgent, and when the actual song of, ‘She Used To Tell Me’, kicks in, then it’s all become a bit similar. Harking back to bands like Jagged Edge and Great White, Bad Blow Job sit between a number of genres without being fresh, new or exciting. However, last song, ‘Drifting Away And Die’ shows some potential albeit coming across like a stripped back Skid Row, it has some nice percussion and music. It is by far the best song here bordering on an anthem.

All in all Bad Blow Job will get more coverage due to their name than the content of their songs, and it’s a shame to say considering some great Italian bands that are out there, BBJ, will not be big anytime soon. Perhaps like the name suggests this leaves me feeling like the album has been a disappointment and an anti-climax. You can get up now, dear.
