Full of Eastern promise!

Brigada Mercy have a Punk ethos whilst being a stripped down Indie/Folk outfit. Singer Don Wilson has an interesting delivery in both songs here. In ‘Recovering Catholic’ it’s a cross between Billie Joe Armstrong, Billy Bragg and Shane MacGowan, whereas with ‘Roto Chico’ it leans more towards the half-interested delivery of Pete Doherty. The band was formed from the ashes of Yorkshire Punk band The Yorkshire Rats, and you can see that this is the evolved sound from brash to well targeted in how the song is delivered, whilst not diluting the message one bit.

‘Recovering Catholic’ has an Irish jig about it and could be a collaboration between Flogging Molly and Gogol Bordello. There is certainly an Eastern gypsy feel to the Folk/Punk, and is a great song. ‘Roto Chico’ was released as a single earlier in the year, and whilst it is still essentially a stripped down track with thumping drums and deep bass tones, there is still that sing-along element with political undertones like the aforementioned Billy Bragg.

There is an interesting mix here that intrigues me to want to hear more. The music whilst at first seems simple is layered well and provides something different in the background. This is a nice fresh feel.
