Wales Does It Again
There's been a deluge of Welsh bands bombarding their way across the Severn Bridge over the last few years, generally conquering the rock and metal scenes in their paths and so it comes as no great surprise to discover that The Dirty Youth hail from, where else but South Wales. Refreshingly though this quintet have a little something tucked up their sleeves to make them stand out from the influx of other Welsh bands in the form of front woman, Danni Monroe. But forget any ideas of The Dirty Youth being a mere Paramore spin off though; whilst other bands seem content to be a Hayley Williams and co. tribute act, these Welsh rockers waste no time in grabbing you by the scruff of the neck and demanding your full attention, instantly proving that they are light years ahead of the paint-by-numbers female fronted band formula.
Full out balls to the wall rock, 'Fight' makes no qualms about its anthem striving potential; a rush of metal riffs spiral contagiously out of control, drawing you further into the track before Monroe's gutsy vocals slam into you, finding the perfect balance between emotionally engaging and aggressively raw to leave you in no doubt that this is a band destined to leave their mark on the British metal scene. Opening with an incessant drum beat and bass lines that set out to take no prisoners, 'Crying Out For You' is an unapologetically infectious slab of smouldering metal that will have feet tapping, heads banging and lungs aching from incessant sing alongs that are destined to happen with each and every repeat play (trust us, this song will receive the playback treatment).
Then just as you think you have them sussed, just when it looks like the Welsh five piece are all about in your face metal, they shake things up with 'This Is For You', a beautifully emotional stripped back track with mesmerising piano work that engulfs, guaranteeing that the hairs on the back of your neck are standing to attention and proving that these lads (and lass) from South Wales are much more than a one trick pony. Looks like Wales have done it again; add The Dirty Youth to the ever growing list of Welsh music wonders.
