Taking No Prisoners

We're In This Together is an EP that screams experience from every beat to each hook laden riff all the way through to the contagious vocals that all but taunt you not to join in, it's the kind of EP that band's work years to accomplish and yet for Liverpool's Broken Lungs, it's their very first offering. Formed amazingly only last August, Broken Lungs is a band that, still in their infancy should be learning to walk, so to speak, instead We're In This Together suggests this is a band with more than a thing or two to teach their fellow musicians.

Rousingly intoxicating, We Stand Tall gets things underway with a foot tapping beat that mingles confidently alongside chugging riffs that give way to a gigantic chorus that is unapologetically infectious. With a nod to the Foo Fighters and hints of Biffy Clyro jostling for space alongside a Lostprophet like catchiness, Broken Lungs are a band hard to ignore and as the gang chant finale heralds the climax of the opening track, it's clear that the Liverpool quartet will take no prisoners. I'm Done With Desperation may brandish a heavier bass line and harsher riffs but still the catchiness oozes throughout adapting slightly but still as effectively for the chugging juggernaut of Try As I Might before the effortless grace and tranquillity of pulls at the heartstrings, beaten perhaps only by the passion fuelled emotion of Lost At Sea in all it's acoustic simplicity and brilliance. They may not have been a band for long but Broken Lungs play as if they have been together all their lives and if this debut EP is any indication, the Liverpool lads will not go unnoticed for much longer.
