Be there, not here...

Derby seems to be producing a number of bands nowadays, and Leon is another band that was formed last year from a number of other local Derby bands. Taking their name for lead singer Leon Black who also plays guitar, there is the addition of Lee Horsley on Keyboards, James Kersey on Bass and Martin Hollan-Lloyd pounding the skins.

On the back of their debut single 'Don't Feed The Animals' - which sold over a thousand copies - comes 'Be There', a gentle slow number drawing influences from Blur with clear and crisp vocals, and gentle guitars and the light electronic noises from keyboards. The chorus isn't very memorable until many listens - of which time I was well and truly bored...

Leon's debut album has just been completed and entitled 'Uppers And Downers' due to the lyrical content which mainly deals with the pro's and con's of sex and death, and also the influences of recording the album next door to a family of drug addicts - drugs addicts that reportedly include the twelve year old daughter and the granny, some folks, huh?

Based on this single and the B-side 'Prozac Generation', it doesn't appear to be much to make the musical world stand up and take notice. Blur did this sort of thing years ago, so do we really need it again?
