80s Bubblegum Pop With A New Twist

A few years back Travis put a completely different spin on Britney Spears' '... Baby One More Time' turning the bubblegum pop track into a downbeat tale of love gone awry. Now step forward Jose Gonzalez as he attempts to do like wise, transforming a once cheery pop track into a mellow bittersweet slice of woe. Well if you're going to cover a song and completely alter it then there really is no better place to start then with a Kylie classic that came courtesy of 80s godfather's of cheesy pop, Stock, Aitken and Waterman.

Gonzalez's transformation of 'Hand On Your Heart' is so extreme that its only when the chorus kicks in that a flash of recognition sparks and you start to remember the peppy Ms. Minogue's version. Forget the 80s pop track that played at the local disco though, Gonzalez relies instead on his nimble fingers to wield his acoustic guitar around the track as his downtrodden vocals emit a plea from a man who sounds like he has been through the ringer and is begging for one more chance. This is about as far removed from the Stock, Aitken and Waterman polished number as you can get. Instead Gonzalez has given a lovely new twist to 80s bubblegum pop that nostalgically reminds of the original but also shows the radical effect a different interpretation can have. So go reminisce with Kylie but then indulge in Gonzalez's sublime rendition as he brings the track bang up to date.
