Metal thoughts collide

The first thing that really surprised me was the fact that Brighton based band, Thoughts Collide were unsigned. Having already been on the massive 'Taste Of Chaos' tour, and having shared the stage with the likes of Taking Back Sunday, Enter Shikari, the Gallows and the wonderful Alexisonfire, they now have this 2 track single.

First song, 'I'll Buy You A Megaphone' shows you a band that isn't just churning out any old claptrap. Sounding a little like Taking Back Sunday, it starts off with all rock guns blazing – all thumping drum beats and large heavy guitar riffs. With a hyperactive frenzy, the vocals and music come together in a merge of catastrophic innocence. With half a step under the Emo umbrella, Jason knocks very loudly on the Screamo door. The song is layered with thoughtful melodies whenever the foot is taken off of the heavy rock gas peddle, and each note seems to have been carefully cut and pasted into its rightful place.

There is a love of the Metal guitar that you either have or you haven't, and we have that in abundance with the second song, 'Sea Of A Thousand Lights', a song that firmly snatched them away from Emo or Screamo, and puts them into a more Metal centre stage. There is still the well crafted musical element, and when things slow down this swims around the airwaves, like a mermaid with PMS but there is not denying that, Thoughts Collide can rock! Here we are looking more at the likes of Trivium, and SikTh, which isn't too surprising as Justin Hill of SikTh along with Dan Weller produced it.

Thoughts Collide could easily go down the Emo route, just as comfortably as the Metal route, personally I think that the Metal route could well be the better option as, 'Sea Of A Thousand Lights' has that great technical Metal sound, but also grabs just enough handfuls of other genres to produce a more original sound.
