Correction. Goddamn right.

'Barcode' sounds like an Arcade Fire B-side. That's not complimentary and it's not supposed to be.

'Barcode' is a jaunty, mid-paced indie-popper that also sounds a bit like something Ocean Colour Scene would write if they were still around today and if stupid people still bought their records. That's not complimentary and it's not supposed to be.

'Barcode' is meant to "echo Radiohead in their more intense and heightened moments". It doesn't. This is indie-pop-by-numbers. Let's check the list:

1. Do the guitars drip a teeny-tiny bit of acerbic feedback so that old people think they sound well edgy but people who actually know something about contemporary music think that a studio engineer left an effects pedal switched on by accident? Check.

2. Does the bass player play only four different notes for the entire duration of the song - apart from during the mid-sections when he feels like he has to prove that he can "do" melodies after all? Check.

3. Is the drum track indistinguishable from a 1987 Casio keyboard on "Fill"? Check.

4. Does the singer sound a bit Northern? Check.

Basically this sounds like The Dead 60s played backwards. That's not complimentary and it's not supposed to be. Spend your money on a bag of chips instead. And maybe some mushy peas if you're a bit Northern.
