It’s all about you now…

Coming out of Stoke-On-Trent, Last Man Down are a nice little surprise. This single, ‘Killing Time’ is clean and punchy in a popular en vogue vein of Emo mixed with Pop/Punk a bit like My Alamo. Yes, they do have an American sound but the hard rocking beat and furious guitar licks have them forgiven. The vocals of, “You run away from your bad memory” from Mike are melodic that don’t go too far at turning the band to screamo • so good work for that!

Now what can you say about the B-Side? Really, where do I start? Personally I love a good Pop song covered by a Rock band, don’t ask me why. Perhaps it’s that I love a good catchy song and so when played hard and fast, a Pop song can become a really good Rock song. Well, this is indeed the case here as Last Man Down have successfully cover the Sugarbabes’ song, ‘About You Now’. Yes, the hooks and melodies are the same but the tempo is quicker and of course we have real instruments instead of computer generated beats. Fantastic.

It’s hard to give a judgement further than what we have here which is a good strong single and a great cover, but if the rest of the album is as good as this then Last Man Down have the potential to be a popular hip band.
