Biography

Like your rock pretty dirty…? Like your bands pretty and dirty…?

Planet of Women release their debut single 'Waking Up the Neighbourhood' through Propaganda Records in January 2005

God may have created man but the gods of rock created Planet of Women. Combining the power of AC/DC with the live show of Tina Turner's soul revue, their unique set up of three singers echoes the pop sensibilities of The Supremes but with the sound of Aerosmith and the attitude of The Runaways. Rock n Roll's their lifeblood and living the rock n roll life is something that singer Jade's been doing all her life; her father was lead singer with notorious 60's group the Riot Squad, alongside Mitch Mitchell and Davie Jones (before he called himself Bowie). The stories her father told her as a young girl, like performing with Hendrix and auditioning for Apple (McCartney making the tea!), shaped both her musical influences and her ambitions. Jade spotted Nina singing in a support band one night and the final piece of the jigsaw fell into place when Jolene stumbled upon the band whilst rehearsing in the next room.

'Waking Up The Neighbourhood' is the bands first single, produced by Ace (ex skunk Anansie) & mixed by Dan Sprigg (Lost Prophets), it's an explosive anthem featuring Jade's searing, Joplin-esque vocals and is guaranteed to be the most exciting single to kick off the new year.

Planet of Women have been playing gigs to much acclaim recently, opening The Barfly stage @ The Download festival to rave reviews, building up a strong following at the Windmill in Brixton and great shows at The Garage, The Barfly, Water Rats, The Twisted Thoughts party & several energising shows in Brighton, Cambridge & Birmingham. Radio is also turning on to the sound of Planet of Women with Total Rock and 6 Music, regularly playing tracks even at this early stage.
