Taken off the band’s new album, ‘In The Music’, this is the first single. I have to admit that I’m not too familiar with the band even though they have been around since 1987. The Scottish lads from Glasgow have released six albums, with the new seventh album due in August, and it has to be said that what I hear here is something that I wasn’t expecting…
I know the old line of never judge a book by it’s cover, and even when you then read the bio of the band you can’t help but think that they will be a horrible mix of something dated, or some pub-band mix of old rock, however what we get here is a mid-tempo track that is beautifully produced and glides out of the speakers like an innocent leaf in a summer breeze, floating with a gentle purpose and harming nothing in it’s path.
Francis has a voice that is like a softer and more silky Feargal Sharkey, and the rest of the band compliment his vocals like a session band, adding and fully rounding the song without trying to take over or show off. It’s simple in a mellow rock kind of way. ‘I Wish You’d Met Her’ is the song title and after listening I think I wish I had too.
