The all new generation!

LA rockers Orange have gone through a transformation over the band’s three albums and I think that it is only now that they have slipped comfortably into a sound that they truly own. Having started out as a rough-around-the-edges Street Punk band, Orange followed the blueprint of British Punk bands whilst polishing, and heavily producing a sound that was more radio-friendly and accessible. The band now are slightly more Heavy Rock with a Punk-Edge, and whilst there have been personnel changes the charismatic British-born singer Joe Dexter is still at the helm of the ship, and has a voice that is strong with a well-trained sneer to it.

With this single, ’Revolution’ we get a song that is a catchy Pop/Punk track that happily gets into your head. There is something a little Glam Rock about it like if The Sweet or T-Rex jammed with The Ramones. Joey’s voice is as happy singing the hooks in his mid-tempo way, whilst also adding harmonies throughout. The song shows a good fun side to a band that once was more about short-sharp shots of teenage angst, swearing and proclaiming that all Mexicans were cool.

This song is also the theme tune to the children’s cartoon ‘Generator Rex’ from the Cartoon Network. The band can currently be seen throughout the UK on tour this month, having recently toured with Zebrahead and MC Lars.
Orange are certainly a band worth checking out, whilst the first two albums are full of catchy Punk anthems, it is with the band’s third album that they show some real maturity, with a number of more thoughtful and well-structured songs. Great stuff.
