Frontline or Batman? That is the question!

I must confess to having not been introduced to London based band Captain before this single found it's way to my laptop, and after hearing this single it didn't surprise me in the least. The single starts with mellow guitar playing and a light bass drum beat, the vocals, when they appear, are too deep and sound harsh against the gentle background music. It's as out of place as a blue comedian at an old ladies tea party - And am I the only one who thinks that it's strange to be singing about a make of flea treatment?

Most songs can grow on you with more listens, and it is all too easy to start to like a single that you once thought was awful, however if this grows on me then it will be like a tumour, gradually sucking the life out of me until nothing is left. Although DJ, VJ and PJ Zane Lowe thought that this was the doggies dangly bits and gave it his coveted title of 'Hottest Record In The World', so maybe I'm really not getting this at all. It's a bit like the singer from Franz Ferdinand singing over an ambient meditating track, and maybe you like that. Perhaps I should get my hands on some whale music, add a drumbeat from my Casio keyboard and sing deeply over the top - don't worry I won't...

If the song isn't bad enough then we also have the instrumental version which only shows you the lack of 'Umph' in the music, and makes you question: Why add this to you single?

That all said, the bland music is quite good if a little repetitive, and there is a little part of harmony that almost impresses me. The bottom line is that although the chorus goes, 'Frontline' all I hear is, 'Batman'...so maybe that's the real problem...
