Tantalisingly sublime with a multitude of hidden depths.

A lavish orchestrian ensemble in the same vein as Arcade Fire, fellow Canadians Broken Social Scene push the boundaries further still in their ability to make what appears to be disjointed instrumental and vocal workings come together triumphantly in a tantalisingly sublime single.

'Ibi Dreams of Pavement (A Better Day)' as far as titles go, is pretty indecipherable but this seems to be in keeping with BSS and is a running concept. Vocals are more mumbled than projected in a comprehensive manner, leaving them open to personal interpretation and adding to the originality of the song. From the outset, 'Ibi Dreams of Pavement (A Better Day)' never lessens its pace, sashaying along in a theatrically epic style that could easily spread a sense of joy and hope into your soul whilst sending you gliding smoothly across a dance floor. Yet there is more to the track then a cheerful dance inducing ditty. With a mournful, woe induced undercurrent penetrating beneath the surface; BSS have simultaneously created the soundtrack to mend a broken heart to.

Laughing in the face of conservatism and refusing to bow to conformity, Broken Social Scene's 'Ibi Dreams of Pavement (A Better Day)' is a secret pleasure in which to indulge yourself in as it transports you away from mundane life. In effect, the perfect form of escapism.
