There have been many singles, EP's and albums that have come through to me to give my humble, and sometimes obscure opinion on; however even at first glance Fuji Heavy look different. The artwork is intelligent, intriguing and simple. The inlay folds out and bears the lines 'You've got to realise/ It doesn't matter/ With a smile behind the anger in a supersonic spread'.

The first thing that I think of when I hear first song 'Sunburn' is that they sound like an English version of The Pixies with bigger balls. Bob Ross has the schizophrenic rawness and freedom like Frank Black, with the added majestic uncontrollability of the quite fabulous Davy MacManus of The Crimea. There are elements of garage rock here with some leanings towards The Zutons and The Dandy Warhols, but make no mistake about it, this is original with a capital O! O! O!

'Looking For Cash' has guitar playing from someone who has listened to rock and not watered down radio friendly indi-pap! The verse could almost be a little Iggy Pop, and sometimes there are even flashes of glam in the vocals that remind me of Toilet Boys. A gritty anthem for a new generation, this is breath taking stuff.

A thick bass line and a thumping drumbeat start off 'Intergalactic Love' which is a little like an 80's song from a time when Shakin' Stevens was cool, Duran Duran were wild boys, and Wham were wholesome men singing about girls...

Starting off with elctro noises that sound similar to that which is on the Motley Crue song 'Rocketship'; last song 'Wicked Ways' has a catchy guitar riff that will have you reaching for your tennis racket months before Wimbledon.

All in all this is an EP to keep handy for when these boys make it big. Fuji Heavy are something a little bit special, and whilst the other bands fight to all sound alike, it's a breath of the fresh stuff that Bob, Andy, Ali, Bryn and Alex have the sense, the brains and the talent to do what they truly believe in, which is off course great garage-rhythm-rock. Hail to a new sound!
