Sticking To The Tried And Tested Formula

If it isn't broke then don't fix it, wise words and ones that Fizzgig vehemently adhere to. Creating the type of melodic power pop-come punk that is guaranteed to blow the winter blues out of your thick overcoat and instil a summer glow whereever it is played, Fizzgig simply tinker with a tried and tested formula producing smile-inducing results that scream for attention. Following in the footsteps of Weezer and Ash and formed in the same mould as Fountains of Wayne, They Might Be Giants and early Blink 182, Fizzgig offer addictively catchy hooks with melodies that are doused in an upbeat chirpiness that leave a sense of happiness regardless of the songs subject.

Fizzgig's knack of generating a track that contains a hook that even Nemo would have a hard time to resist transcends over every track. Recent single 'You Can't Have Me' becomes impaled in your brain before the first listen has even finished. Soon you realise you're singing along as if you've heard it a thousand times already but still want to hear it just one more time. Infectiously catchy 'Sympathy' may start with a steady pop beat but once the chorus kicks in with a sneeringly scornful chant like chorus of "I know what you want from me/ Sympathy, Sympathy" the song seems to take on a new lease of life. Sure, it still clings to its power pop life line throughout its 2 minutes 48 duration but within this there's time for a wailing guitar solo that just gives it a rock edge and a certain little extra. Bucking the trend slightly, 'Angela' is Fizzgig's dark and serious track. Although not in the same league as Weezer when they do solemn; 'Angela' is certainly down beat by Fizzgig standards and demonstrates their capability to tackle the heartfelt break up song in a less than preppy fashion. Fountains of Wayne-esque 'In It' is a sugar coated treat which rushes headlong into the track from the first drum beat and remains relentlessly driven in delivering a dose of summer that is begging to be released as a single. 'In It' reeks of a summer hit that teenage girls would go crazy for in all its addictively chirpy glory.

Fizzgig may not be recreating the wheel with their music but what they offer is unthreatening, appealing and highly addictive. It's the type of music that plasters a smile on your face and becomes embedded in your mind quicker than a Franz Ferdinand guitar riff. Why Fizzgig aren't signed to a label is beyond reason. With groups like Fall Out Boy and Panic! At The Disco tapping into the teen market, it makes sense that Fizzgig could do likewise. They certainly have the catchiness to leave the teen market in a smouldering heap.
