Ballads That Pack A Punch
Offering elegant balladry with a fistful of rock, Story One are Coldyplay with a gutsy edge. Boasting passion filled lyrics to rival Jeff Buckley and raw gravelly vocals that will make Stereophonics front man Kelly Jones nervous, the Nottingham quartet look set to cause some commotion to the rock market that has served the likes of Keane so well the last couple of years.
With front man Tom Evans wielding a violin whilst doubling as vocal provider, Story One are not your average indie rock band. Hauntingly atmospheric violin solos merge with Tom Evans' gruffly emotive vocals, sweeping and soaring throughout the track. Soft mellow verses build up to a riotous crescendo during the chorus that impart a bittersweet parallel to one another. 'Out Of Season' holds all the key elements of a perfect balladry rock track; emotive enough to capture the listener but with enough balls to stop it being too soppy insuring that many should take note of Story One.
Unlike many 'b' sides, 'Sunday Best' is far from a throw away filler track. Building upon all the qualities of 'Out Of Season', 'Sunday Best' simply does it's job of showing how much more there is to this band and will hopefully find a place on this summer's album release. Keane and co. beware, there are new pretenders to your throne and Story One might just be able to nip in and grab some glory.
