Moistboyz kick the fuck in rock!
Back in the late 80's and early 90's we were overrun with high-testosterone filled bands bragging and boasting about anything big and manly from their sexual exploits, to the big mean machines that they drove. We had party rock for all of the frat-boys to smack each others arses to, whilst bikini-clad babes stripped and wrestled in jelly. However now we live in a world where we can't swear without written justification of the use of unnecessary profanity, and God-forbid if we blaspheme, or make a comment that may be seen to degrade females to a state of before they were given the vote in the 'dark' years. Well, fuck all that! The Moistboyz don't give a flying fuckin' shit about those things, and the letters PC, most likely stand for Pussy and Cock, as opposed to politically Correct to them!
The Moistboyz have actually been around for a little while releasing a couple of albums on Mike D's infamous record label Grand Royal, and also one on former Faith No More singer, Mike Patton's Ipecac Records, before this one. Moistboyz IV is straight up, no-holds-barred rock. First song, 'I Don't Give A Fuck' states the obvious very nicely. It's a mid-tempo rock plod with vocals a little like Rob Zombie singing songs in the vein of Skid Row on Slave To The Grind. With a riff that sounds a little like Smash Mouth's 'On A Rope', 'Uncle Sam and Me' is instantly catchy.
It would be a mistake to think that the sound is dated. Although there are aspects of 'Cock-Rock' here, there are hardly any high-pitched guitar solos and 'widdly-widdly' guitar tapping, but deep chugging riffs and heavy rock beats. 'White Trash' is another of those songs that gets right into your head, which is instantly offensive but great! Lyrics like, "Blow shit bricks and scratching his ass// Hey man step it up and feel my blast!// White Trash!" This is followed by the sensual song, 'Fuck You', which does get somewhat tedious after a while. 'The Year Of The Maggot' however is bordering on Punk with it's high-octane beat and fast lyrics, it's sounds slightly out-of-character for album, if not still done well.
By far the best song is 'Roy' about a loser guy with paedophilic tendencies. Here are so many great lines in this it's hard to choose any, but here are a couple: "...shit-stains cooking in the crack of your ass // caught your little brother with a broken glass..." and "...bottom of the class, but your first on the scene // there's a dude in your car and he's only fifteen!" A great chugging song that gets better with every listen. 'That's What Rock and Roll Can Do' is slightly 70's glam in the vein of Iggy Pop and T-Rex giving the album another slight spin.
Even the slow song is a million miles away from a slushy love song, with lyrics that go, "You never write, come he tonight, I'm lying naked on my bed // I sent you pictures of my pussy, want to give you some head..." 'The Stalker' is perhaps exactly what you would imagine, but slower, gentler and more graphic! We then have some more rock'n'roll influenced rock with the great 'Everybody's Fucked Her', before the slower and more melodic, 'I'll Die Tomorrow' which could easily be an Ozzy Osbourne song to see us out.
So what we have is an album unlike anything that is out there. Sometimes it's a little basic, and if truth be told I'm sure three or four songs have the same riff, but it's the stuff to smash your room up to and evoke teenage angst. You don't have to get too involved in your feelings with any boring Emo-crap, nor do you need to worry about harmonies. This isn't sugary-sweet radio-friendly pap, this is music likened to rice Krispies and razor-blades, swearing at teachers, and butt-fucking friend's fathers. Good, dirty adult fun! They even describe themselves as, "Pure, unadulterated, fuck-your-sister-with-a-garden-hose and punch-your-balls-off-with-a-flowerpot ROCK!" I'm not sure why, but I love it!!
