It's so sleazy!
The Moistboyz are a funny bag of musical rock debaucher. Hailing from Austin, Texas they are slightly classic rock mixed with some sleaze rock then given a little shake with Rob Zombie's secret potion and yanked up-to-date by the seat of their soiled cum-stained jockies!
'That's What Rock And Roll Can Do' is not the strongest song on their album 'Moistboyz IV' (which we have also reviewed by the way), but it does still give you a good enough example of what they are about. Starting with a melodic guitar loop, it soon turns into a blues-influenced rock romp in the vein of Led Zepplin but with deeper and sleazier vocals. I'm not sure how they do it as I really can't put my finger on it, but they do somehow make blues/rock'n'roll sound cool. In a time when so many people have to watch what they say, Moistboyz, quite frankly don't give a flying fuck about swearing, and have lyrics straight out of the late eighties when it was mandatory to show off your sexual exploits by singing about them!
What is interesting is not only that they include three versions of the song - one is a radio edit, which I wouldn't have thought they'd believe in, second is the original and the third is a live version – but the choice of the other song 'Roy' which has me raising the proverbial hairy twins, as for me it's the best song on the album by far, and if it's on the single there aren't too many other reasons to purchase a full priced album! 'Roy' is a rock classic with fast lyrics that are almost like a rap with excellent lyrics about paedophilic Roy and his x-rated exploits.
Moistboyz are quite a shot in the arm, as they aren't indie rock, emo, or punk but refreshingly dirty and obscene, however as the band have refused to add me as a friend to their MySpace page twice, I can only assume that they don't particularly like my take on the band, but hey, that's what rock and roll reviews can do...
