Joey Nightmare really are a tough one. The five piece have the perfect formula; four, with the time cool looking lads and a stunning fashion idol vocalist. The image cannot be faltered, so why did I not instantly fall in love with the 'perfect' band?

Truth is- its not all about the look. The album opens up with vibrant, distinctive radio favourite Pirate Disco, which really is a cracking opening to any album. The song is so clever - making you want to listen repeatedly, yet oddly willing it to end, in anticipation for the rest of the album. Which is where I was let down. Its not a bad album, far from it in fact. The music is awesome, fresh and new; the unique collaboration of disco rock works really well, with full credit to the young Chichester bred band. Yet throughout debut release 'polytechnic', I had to ask myself the same question over and over; why does the band appear to rely so heavily on lead singer Tiffiny Tremain? She is fantastic - her vocals send shivers down my spine at points, and Tiffiny will quite clearly become one of the coolest female style icons within the industry. Yet the album feels every so often like a solo release. Criticism can only surely be placed with the production?

I want to say they sound American - but perhaps this is primarily because the Americans do this kinda thing so well, and when I say "this kinda thing", I mean the slightly emo/indie process. Decaydance would be proud - Joey Nightmare fit right in alongside "The academy is", "Cute is what we aim for" and "Paramore" . I enjoy it more and more every time I listen to it, ignoring the fact I want more guitar solos and volume, starting to really appreciate personal favourites 'was young once' and 'Mr and Mrs Epic: Hand in Hand'- perhaps because these two in particular sound like band "stuff" as opposed to solo material.

I did enjoy the album, regardless of initial negativity and highly recommend purchasing the CD. It's a good album - not mind blowing but worth a listen. Tiffiny can sing and the boys know their stuff, yet who are they marketing for?

First listen- I couldn't get over how much louder I wanted it, but the tracks are all really impressive and for a band that have only been together since 2005, Joey Nightmare seem to have worked it out quite well. 4Real have found themselves potential yet the faith in the boys ability and appeal needs to increase; otherwise it would appear, sooner rather than later, the myspace friends list of Ashlee Simpson and Joey Nightmare might almost become identical.
