The Domino State- Iron Mask

The Domino State are the new kids on the block- a five piece from London, bringing us their debut single "Iron Mask" on the 20th August. Almost immediately, I noted that the music and vocals sound very similar to that of bands such as The Editors and Interpol, with a hint of The Departure in there somewhere. What grabs my attention most with this record is the lack of focus on the vocals that we have become accustomed to with modern Indie records- which find themselves differentiated from one another due to the heavily accented releases. The Domino State concentrate on what they can do with their instruments as opposed to their vocal ability.

The single is a heavy, intense record, using the high number of band members to its advantage. The B-side "For Now" is possibly in my opinion not as catchy as the single, but almost better in its style and production. The wavey bass line and eerie vocals finish this two track CD off nicely. It's definitely a good sign for things to come from these guys, London dates already announced and their debut album scheduled for early 2008. An excellent start.
