Its All In The Name

It can’t be helped so, even Gordon Brown would find it hard to control himself so lets just get it out of the way. That’s right let the juvenile sniggers merrily chuckle their way out as the full impact of the name chosen by this particular Canadian act hits. Out of all the names in the world it seems that for these Canadians nothing really had the same impact as Holy Fuck and what an impact it is. Offensive, hilarious, quite witty and undeniably memorable, Holy Fuck is a name that instantly snares your attention just for its sheer cockiness and reckless attitude, but what about the music, does that have the same wow impact? Unfortunately on the basis of ‘Lovely Allen’ the wow factor has slipped in comparison to the bands earlier work. Although still eccentrically enlighteningly ‘Lovely Allen’ moves away from Holy Fuck’s usual club land haunts and opts for a melodious trek into almost rock territory as a blaze of riffs battles with distortion and hammering drums, but it just doesn’t ripple with the same creativity as has come to be expected. With a pretty whimsical intro that steadily builds, upping the expectation levels, ‘Lovely Allen’ transforms into what is a beautifully mellow slice of electronica that is pleasantly sweet but could perhaps benefit from a little snap and spark. Unlike their name, Holy Fuck’s latest release may not live in your memory for too long.
