Who Drank All the Energy Drinks?

No prizes for guessing who has been benefiting from being on a tour sponsored by an energy drink as The Blackout bound onto the stage like the Energizer Bunny on speed. Erupting with enthusiasm and releasing enough energy to power a small town, the boys from Wales waste no time as ‘Tick Tick Boom!’ heralds their arrival. An enlivening shout along number with the infectious chants of “we … are ... dynamite!”, ‘Tick Tick Boom!’ instantly sends the crowd into a frenzy of eager fervour as the six piece zoom around the stage, microphones whirling in all directions and guitars swinging like pendulums. Whizzing through their set the Merthyr crew are as entertaining as they are energetic with their not one but two front man combo busting out jokes and irresistible tunes without pausing for breath. Dedicated to all the ladies in the crowd, the cleverly insultingly titled ‘Spread Legs Not Lies’ bounds and pounds in all the right places as catchy hooks blend with throat achingly vicious growls before ‘The Beijing Cocktail’ pushes in to insure that every foot in the place in tapping along. In the end though it is left to the “whoa-oh” chorus of ‘High Tide Baby’ to steal the show as a song originally sung by Lostprophets’ Ian Watkins results in a mass sing along.

With the wild antics of ‘I’m A Riot? You’re A Fucking Riot’ brining The Blackout’s set to a close with circle pits to boot, its obvious to all why these Welsh lads are being tipped as one’s to watch. Slotted amongst any genre with ‘core’ attached to it The Blackout bring something for everyone doused in energetic splendour that will leave you exhausted and begging for an energy drink.
